Velammal Art Tour: Art of learning redefined

Organised by Velammal Knowledge Park, the four-day programme was inaugurated at The Velammal International School, Ponneri on Wednesday

Velammal Art Tour, a unique project by Velammal Knowledge Park (VKP), which is part of Chennai-based educational group Velammal Educational Trust (VET), was inaugurated at the VKP campus in Ponneri on Wednesday.

Veteran artist Shri. P Gopinath, VKP’s Academic Director Smt. Geethanjali Sasikumar, and Kerala Lalithakala Akademi Chairman and VKP’s Creative Director Shri. Murali Cheeroth formally inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp.

Addressing the gathering, P Gopinath shared his memory about the formation and evolution Cholamandalam artist village. Those were the days of struggle, and Cholamandalam  helped the artists to establish their identity and sustenance, he said. He also said such initiatives like Art Tour would positively impact education and art.

Smt. Geethanjali Sasikumar said how such initiatives bring changes in the educational landscape of our nation and help the students understand the world in a better way, thus facilitating their learning process and equipping them to be successful professionals.

Sharing the conceptual dimension of the Art Tour, Shri. Murali Cheeroth said Velammal Knowledge Park and Chitravathi Centre for Creativity always uphold the possibility of imbibing the changes happening in the field of education globally. Be it art, science or language, art has the ability to communicate better, because there is an artist in every child, he added.

This four-day programme from April 13 to 16, which pioneers a new pedagogical approach, would herald a new direction in education. This way, the students achieve a positive learning environment, which also helps cultivate a constructive school culture that promotes professional satisfaction. Further, it would enhance their learning ability as well, according to CCC.

Moreover, the art tour has an aesthetic dimension in giving a new image to each campus, because the works of art produced there as part of various activities in the Art Tour would adorn the walls of the respective campus. This way, it etches a long-term impression on the creative and aesthetic identity of every school, in tune with the new modes of education taking shape globally.

As part of the flour-day programme, various workshops, interactive sessions and cultural programmes are also organised. The inaugural edition of the art tour will conclude on April 16.
